Tom Puzzo: Fred Thompson is the best conservative and best candidate

FRED THOMPSON is the best person to lead this country. He is a true conservative and has been his entire life. All one has to do is check his record to see this.

Throughout my 30-year Air Force career, I served under eight Presidents (as my commanders in chief). Without argument, President Reagan was the best commander-in-chief a military person could ever have served under. Fred Thompson possesses the same qualities and vision as President Reagan in that he is strong on national defense and sees a dire need to secure our borders and control immigration.

Fred Thompson's Defining Moment: Des Moines 2007; Nashua 1980

For all of you who were impressed, as I was, with Fred Thompson's handling of the Des Moines Register's debate moderator's almost successful(4 out of 5)effort to convert the entire top tier of GOP presidential candidates into trained seals, this little video compares Fred's smackdown of Carolyn Washburn with Ronald Reagan's woodshedding of the Nashua Telegraph's Jon Breen in 1980. It is a classic and reminds so many of us who have not seen a conservative since the Gipper why we like Fred so much. Reagan credited this colloquy with having propelled him to the White House.

about (Vice President) Colin Powell

The following was posted as a comment by us on Blogs for Fred Thompson in reaction to a story on Huntington News about Colin Powell as a possible selection for the GOP vice presidential nominee in 2008 with Fred Thompson.

Let's cut to the chase. Conservatives, in general, do not like Colin Powell. They very much respect his service to his country but they do not respect his politics.

When (hopefully) Fred Thompson is chosen as the GOP nominee in 2008 conservatives will have won a major victory.

However, two important realities will then happen.

First, conservatives will have little or no influence over the choice of a vice president nominee.

Next, in truth, conservatives will gladly give in to Colin Powell on the ticket for a victory in November 2008. That would be an easy choice and compromise.

Ronald Reagan added George Bush to the ticket and rode to victory crushing Jimmy Carter.

If Fred Thompson adds Colin Powell to the ticket in 2008 another conservative victory party will take place.

Fred Thompson is "Reaganesque" according to CNN's Crowley

Read::: the Media Matters blog
CNN's Crowley called Thompson's speech -- in which he decried illegal immigrants originally from Cuba -- "Reaganesque"

Fred Thompson:
You talk about national security, one of the biggest national security issues that we face is right here at home. We're having a big debate now with the immigration bill. They say it's dividing our party. I think to a certain extent, that's right, and I don't think it will always be that way. I think we have to have our honest disagreements and honest opinions and then move on. Some very good friends of mine is on the other - or, are on the other side from where I am. That's all right; we're adults. Let's air our views and decide what's best for this country.

America Needs Another Ronald Reagan: Is Fred Thompson The One?

Commentary
By Slater Bakhtavar

The closer we approach the 2008 elections, the more I realize America needs another Ronald Reagan. Someone everyone knows, someone everyone likes, someone who is conservative and someone who can both win the election and manage to hold the Presidency for eight years. The next President should be very expressive and persuasive in front of the camera. He should emanate confidence, and appeal to women voters. He should be someone in the public eye and yet he should not be involved in the Washington mess.
